I bet 85%, at least 70% of people would do this: view PDF with Adobe Reader and view PowerPoint with Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Maybe my data is not that accurate, but at it indicates people are inclined to choose certain software for one purpose. But, have you imagined that what if you don’t have the corresponding viewer on your computer to read a PDF document or a PowerPoint Presentation?

Here’s the answer: turn to Google for help. I’m not saying that you search Google and find the right viewer. You don’t necessarily download both. To install Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office takes time and not both are free.

Only a few weeks after Adobe announced release of Adobe Reader X, Google also announced that the lastest version of Chrome (Chrome supported PDF viewing. That means you can open PDF documents directly with Chrome. Now you have another alternative of PDF reader, though pity that it’s not for PowerPoint.

In fact, this is not the first time that Chrome can support PDF. There has been a Chrome extension called Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer. This addon for Google Chrome allows you to preview PDF files, PowerPoint Presentations and other documents in Google Docs Viewer. You’ll find this addon very useful if you want to take a quick look at PDF or PowerPoint in Google Chrome when you don’t want to install a PDF reader or MS office.

Of course, if you need to make changes to PDF documents or PowerPoint Presentations, Chrome can do nothing. You cannot use it to edit PDF or PPT, nor convert PDF to PPT or PPT to PDF. Right now Google seems to show no interest in snatching Adobe or Microsoft’s job. Adobe Acrobat and MS Office are still the best solutions for PDF and PowerPoint. If you can afford them, purchase one, you can sure make professional PDF documents and wonderful PowerPoint Presentations.

Still one thing to mention, sometimes we need to make conversions between the two. That is to say, to create PDF from PPT or to convert PDF to PPT. For the former, you can use the free Add-in—Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS. For the latter, you can use some third-party converter like AnyBizSoft PDF to PowerPoint Converter. Don’t belittle the conversions. You may find it useful in many situations. For example, teachers may want to store their PPT presentations to PDF documents. However, when they want to reuse others’ PPT-based PDF, they can also convert PDF to PPT.

How to add PDF files into PowerPoint Slides

According to Adobe, most of the PDF files are generated from office documents like Word, PowerPoint, Excel and etc. After editing contents in the editable format files, people would like to save them as PDF documents for sharing, storing, or other usage like survey.

Today, I would talk about the business about teachers and speakers. These kinds of people would use Microsoft PowerPoint frequently for teaching and illustrating. Inevitably, they need refer to some slides which were saved as PDF format, maybe copy some text, extract images or recover all the slides. And let’s back to our topic, how to add PDF files into PowerPoint Slides?
Here I would introduce you some free solutions, which would be helpful.

1.    Add PDF files using Adobe Reader

You just need to open PDF file in Adobe Reader and Click Camera icon and then select the images and press Ctrl+C to copy the images/area to the clipboard. Then open PPT slides and press Ctrl+V to paste the images/area to PPT slides from the clipboard. You can set the location where the image appears as well as revise the image size. It is up to you. What’s more, you can save the image as PNG, JPG, and Gif format and so on.

2.    Using PowerPoint 2007 Object functions.
You can click the Insert ribbon to launch the service. The first button is Acrobat option, which means, you firstly need install Adobe Reader on your computer.

Click OK to open the box to choose PDF file you want to insert, Click default option and you would find PDF files are inserted into PPT slides for presentation. Then you can view them on PPT presentations, Click the icon and the PDF file will be viewed on Adobe Reader.

The two free approaches can help you add PDF into PPT slides so easy. However, there are some drawbacks we cannot avoid. For example, the PDF file we want to add is locked to prevent us open, copy or print it. Besides, we cannot edit the original PDF files for personal usage. If we really use the PDF documents in PPT slides unlimitedly, we have to convert PDF to PPT. By the conversion from PDF to PPT, we can edit PDF freely in editable PPT or PPTX format. And we can also use Acrobat to edit, but trust me; it would not be an easy work. Comparing two ways, I still prefer to the first way, though both of them may not be free.

PowerPoint: Rehearse and Set Timing

Will you be nervous about presenting a PowerPoint slide show? Relax, take deep breaths and rehearse with your presentation beforehand. You can rehearse and record slide timing for a PowerPoint that can practically run the show on its own.

In PowerPoint 2003, open the presentation for which you want to rehearse and set timings. Go to the Slide Show menu and click on Rehearse Timings. This starts the presentation in rehearsal mode. Practice your lecture as you want it to go along with each slide. When you are ready to go to the next slide, click the Advance button. Continue to do so for the entire presentation. When you are done, click Yes to accept the timings. You can also click No to start all over.

In PowerPoint 2007 or 2010, open the presentation for which you want to rehearse and set timings. Go to the Slide Show tab and click Rehearse Timings in the Set Up group. The presentation begins and the Rehearsal toolbar appears.  Practice your lecture as you want it to go along with each slide. When you are ready to go to the next slide, click the Next button. You can also click Pause if you need to take a break (helpful if the phone rings or you are otherwise interrupted) or the Repeat button to start over on that slide. Continue through the presentation. When you are done, click Yes to accept the timings. You can also click No to start all over.

You can also enter a time directly into the Slide Time box if you know how long you want a slide to appear.
